When a pet requires surgery, anxiety is usually felt by the pet owner. The most common question we are asked is,
"Is anesthesia safe for my pet?" While there is always a risk using anesthesia on humans and animals, the risk is very small. Steps that we take prior to and during anesthetic procedures minimize the risk. Including:
- Pre-anesthetic bloodwork to determine hydration status, kidney and liver function and blood count
- Surgical I.V. catheters for senior, sick and injured pets
- Physical examination by Veterinarian prior to induction
- Breathing Monitor
- Pulse Oximeter (measures blood Oxygen level)
- ECG
- Sub-cutaneous fluids (helps pets recover more smoothly)
- Technician to monitor pet during surgery and during recovery
- Large warm cushioned mats for recovery
Most dental procedures require general anesthesia to be administered. Our dental cleaning procedure includes:
- Calculus removal
- Scaling teeth- ultrasonic scaler and hand scaling
- Polishing (removes ridges bacteria may adhere to)
- Fluoride treatment
- Sealant
- Dental X-ray may need to be done
- Extractions if necessary ( Acupuncture may be used during recovery to relieve pain and discomfort )
- Root Planing and Perioceutic Treatment if large pockets are present
- Each pet goes home with toothpaste sample and fingerbrush
At the dental dismissal, a Technician will explain the procedure performed, condition of teeth and gums, demonstrate home dental care and acquaint you with current dental care products available.
